Why I’m pissed off

It feels like we’re going backwards — from global economy and people being citizens of the world, to countries ‘taking back control’, cutting ties and closing themselves in.

Why is it that instead of reaching out and looking at the bigger picture, we talk about building walls?

When did we stop celebrating diversity and treating otherness as alien and intrusive? Diversity doesn’t take away from our culture; it doesn’t threaten us in any way. It adds to it, it enriches us.

And then there’s the news… If it’s not Trump’s daily idiocracy and his non-stop quest to getting rid of ‘illegal aliens’ it’s the latest from the Brexit world where migrants are a bit like Schrödinger’s cat (you know, the kind that is simultaneously scrounging off the state while stealing your jobs at the same time) . It feels like we’re stuck in a bad movie, where the villains are in charge and we’re simply watching in horror as the world around us crumbles.

I am frustrated! No, I’m damned pissed off that the world that we live in is in this state!

Are you serious? Are you honestly telling me we live in a world at the brink of WW3 because a couple of mentally unstable fanatics have access to nuclear heads? Are you seriously telling me that in 21st century, people in war torn countries are subjected to famine, rape and torture? We know this, we have proof of this, social media has made it easy for the gruesome evidence to stare us in the face yet we chose to turn the other way and focus on the latest celebrity drama.

I’m annoyed that in 2017 we have KKK rallies, we have police brutality where people get shot for no good reason and women get vaginally searched on the street. It’s scary that people can’t walk in their neighbour hood without the fear of getting shot, having acid thrown in their face or a car run them over.

I’m frustrated that the earth itself is turning on us with hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes of massive proportions yet some still deny global warming.

And most of all, I’m pissed off because I don’t know how to stop it. I don’t know how to do my part. I’m not even sure what my part in this is.
